Starting on July 11th, we will welcome the exhibition-installation “A City in the Forest”, by the French-Moroccan artist Chourouk Hriech. Inspired by the artist’s first contact with Rio de Janeiro in 2022, the large-scale installation unites different elements of the visual arts, revealing Chourouk’s sensitive research on the relationship with the natural landscape.
Chourouk Hriech presents a hybrid work that combines painting and drawing, and reveals an aesthetic based on different cultural references and materials to create a sensitive unity. The artist's work combines sculptures in mixed media, acrylic on tiles, India ink, gouache and digital photographic printing on cotton wallpaper and gouache on canvas. To compose the exhibition, the artist participated in the Cidade Floresta artistic residency in the last week of June in a studio at Casa Europa, where she created the pieces that will be exhibited at the Museu do Amanhã.
The installation will consist of three canvases (190cm x 150cm) mounted on a frame, in addition to a structure (200cm x 300cm) where a sticker with the image of Copacabana will be applied, from which a fabric with a negative photomontage will emerge, with eight photos taken by the artist during her first trip to the city in 2022. The artist will also use ceramic birds, clay jars and roof tiles. The exhibition is part of the Cidade Floresta 2023 project, carried out by the Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro with the Consulate General of France in Rio de Janeiro.
